About Me

Penny has been married 24 years, and has four adult children, aged 23, 21, and twin sons at 19. She started out her career as a teacher’s aide at fifteen in a small private school. Her main responsibility at the time was teaching children who couldn’t learn – to read. Even at this tender age, Penny recognized that the issues for these children were more about self esteem and courage then about lack of academic ability. Many of the children Penny worked with went on to be extremely successful in their schooling, some even topping their grades as they moved through the years.

At the age of twenty one, Penny married and a year later became a full time mum. During these very busy parenting years, she was also actively involved in supporting families that were struggling socially and economically within her community.

In 2000 -2002, Penny completed her Diploma of Ministry, while continuing to outreach in a very practical way to the poor and homeless, aged and lonely.

2003 -2005 brought Penny to completing her Bachelor of Social Science with a counselling major. Penny brings many life experiences into her practice.

Having experienced a traumatic childhood, Penny has embraced her pain and fears and moved forward into her own healing and freedom. She is a connected and compassionate counsellor, with deep experiential knowledge and understanding of the way through to freedom.

Penny enjoys working with children, families and with all types of relational issues.

Penny works well with depth relational difficulties; trauma therapy; sexual abuse trauma/ childhood abuse; anxiety and depression; sexual issues and personal/spiritual growth.

Penny has a strong understanding of psychodynamic and systems and uses this as an overview; yet works in a very person centred way – tailoring sessions for the individual with the consideration of age, personality, creativity and issue so this becomes a way through for the individual or family/relationship of each client. She loves using imagery and metaphors, plus on hands and whiteboard strategies as needed.
